When a penitential rite becomes psychobabble.

From Mass yesterday:

Priest: "For the times when our affectivity causes pain and hurt for others - Lord have mercy"
People: "What the...?"

That's why you say the black, and nothing but the black; do the red and nothing but the red.

I've lifted this from an online dictionary
"Psychology

relating to moods, feelings, and attitudes.
denoting or relating to mental disorders in which disturbance of mood is the primary symptom."

That is seriously weird!

Translationese: in a romance language it makes perfect sense as a drive?/human failing leading to sin: that sentimental self love masquerading as love which will, for example, euthanize, ie murder or collaborate in murder, your mother " to end her suffering" Lie: it's your suffering seeing her suffer.
That's what's reffered to , from the same root that gives us affection.Sensibility? wallowing ? nuerotic love? Certainly a modern failing, a modern social phenomenon: feeling trumps all......
In Italian, Spanish, etc meaningful and common.
A meaning in pschology in English may well be as Patricius gives.
I d on't know what the moral is exactly, so much went out the window with ICEL.
