Anyone have any idea why CAFOD gave £295,970 to Islamic Relief in 2009?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Yes, I do...and i'm someone who gives CAFOD a very wide berth...there was a bloody great earthquake in Pakistan and it soon became clear to all and sundry that the only way to get relief onto the ground was to channel it through an organisation that wouldn't arouse suspicions of crusading or proselytising.

Please God it went in humanitarian relief and not anything more sinister. I've avoided CAFOD since the condom thing )and isn't the director in an openly gay relationship - or have I got that wrong?). It seems the safer course to give to ACN.

I imagine that's a bit of a one-way street though. It's not like Islam proselytises is it?

Corruption is so rife, so endemic in Pakistan and especially in the lawless tribal areas that it is pretty much inevitable that such aid would end up in the wrong hands. Even the often jihadi-friendly BBC admits as much regarding the 2005 earthquake (See here: UN quake aid went to extremists)

ACN doesn't feel the need to filter aid through Muslim charities - ACN send it straight to bishops on the ground:Reaching out to the victims of disaster

Ahem:

Niger: Health & Nutrition Improvement £42,880
Pakistan: Emergency Transitional Shelter for Earthquake Affectees £50,000
Pakistan: Support Community Resilience in ER Area of Mardan NWFP Pakistan £50,000
Palestine: Emergency Intervention in Gaza Strip Palestine £50,000
Palestine: Emergency Relief Psychosocial Support to Gaza Children £103,090

I'll let readers draw their own.

Does anyone know if SCIAF operates in the same manner?

I too have rejected since the condom issue & the homosexual alliance (I refuse to spoil the word 'gay')
Why should we be giving relief to Pakistan when their own money is used (wasted?) on nuclear weapons? Even our government gives aid to Pakistan & China (now the second biggest industrial nation on earth). Even seeing that some of their poor need help does not - in my book - mean we should send funds to be misused.
I agree wholeheartedly that ACN is the best route for making sure that money gets to where it is needed without being 'skimmed off' first

SCIAF is just CAFOD in a 'See-You-Jimmy' Hat

Funny how Islamic countries don't seem to chip in as mcuh as the "infidel" nations.

There should be no aid to countries with appaling human rights abuses, especially against Christians.
