123 meme

Mac tagged me for this ages ago. It's from Gentle Regrets by Roger Scruton. Well worth a read if you want to understand why Scruton and the young Ratzinger reacted as they did to the collective lunacy of 1968. Feel free to tag yourself. Mac has the rules.

..... was not Ratz part of the trendy liberal putsch that has broad the Church to its knees? Strange that his conservative faction now proclaim him as some far-sighted prophet. Maybe he was hedging his bets as befits a man with ambition. Look to Lefebvre or Davies for accounts of the dismantling of tradition and the institution of a new religion. Even now this meddling German things he can rewrite tradition. He should have stayed in his backroom among his modern philosophy books.

I think the phrase 'meddling German' is hardly a fitting way for a Catholic to describe the Pope.
