A Trained Liturgist Repents (Sort Of)

Start spreadin' the news, I'm leavin' today....."

Aidan Nichols OP
Looking at the Liturgy.

"No-one could accuse Msgr. JD Crichton, the doyen of living liturgists in England, of insouciance towards the new rites, yet he has spoken recently of a

loss of reverence which ultimately leads to a loss of the sense of the transcendent God who is the Object of all worship. In a way we are in danger of forgetting what worship is about. It is not just a heartwarming experience for those who like that sort of thing. "

My; is he still alive? Wasn't he one of the original Vernacular Society nuts in the 1950s?
The words of Shelley occur to me
"my name is Ozymandias, King of Kings,
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away"
The great benefits that they thought the reform would bring have, in the end, for the most part caused a desert.
I now pray that he will continue the rest of the journey.

Died aged 94 in 2001 apparently. Here he is praising Cranmer. Say no more.
